i can’t believe how full my days are here. with a backyard (haven’t had one in 10 years) and the forest and ocean, trails and creeks surrounding us, most of the hours of our days are spent outside. we come in for potty, snack, meals and sleeping. and because it stays light so late here, we are all going to bed VERY late and waking up VERY late. there was a time when we had a schedule and it worked for us but right now, we are just going with the flow. sort of like when you’re on vacation and all of the schedules and must-do’s aren’t gripping you. you feel free and you just move with what feels right. i wonder if it will stay like this for a long time, this feeling. or i wonder if we will somehow fall into a rhythm with our days. for now, i am not questioning. i am just soaking all of this up like a thirsty sponge.
do these images whisper what it is i am feeling?

YES. they do. i look forward to these posts! It reminds me so much of when we made our own move from san diego to gig harbor (across the tacoma narrows bridge). It’s so magical here in the PNW…i love seeing people that in love with this place like i am. i am so incredibly happy for you and your family. i can just feel and imagine the huge lift that has been taken off your shoulders, and a light, peaceful quiet and awe has taken it’s place.

It looks so so beautiful there! And you look so over the moon in your element – happy! This feeling of being in the right place … I’m personally still torn between the known and the pacific nw, the unknown. But, you, you are definitely selling me on the risk. xo

It’s written all over your faces. All 3 of you. Over the moon happy for y’all!

I love your blog – it reminds me of my place of origin, my forever home on Vancouver Island. There is no place like the Pacific Northwest. There is absolutely nothing like it. I know exactly just what you mean. My heart is there somewhere with you and yours.

Hello happy people: )
I just wanted to share part of my favorite poem with you as it seems to fit just perfectly with your wonderful new world…
There is pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is rapture in the lonely shore,
There is society where non intrudes,
By the deep sea and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but nature more…
~Gearge Gordon, Lord Byron.

Denise, I just relocated from east coas to seattle, and minus the rainy/cold weather right now, which every local is saying is not normal this time of year, it is magical here and beautiful. I did actually trip the other day, when walking at a park here, when out of nowhere the cascades and mount ranier came out in full force. I was so enraptured by them, I fell!!! Ha! So I get what you are saying and had a chuckle on the light comment. My husband and I are so tired – we are eating later now, going to bed later, and the light here so late – its awesome!
Enjoyo your new life and new home. And dont forget to visit Seattle, and go to Olympic Sculpture Park and Discovery Park.

We live in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of the NM high desert and we feel the same way. We’re surrounded by the national forest; thousands of acres of it. It took us two years to bother with finding our way back to a sun-set schedule, and only because it finally became necessary with trying to bring more farming chores into our lives. We still drift in and out of the early morning schedule… I think it’s just like that when there’s no city to yank your soul about.

you are beautiful.

You all just look like you completely belong there. It’s like the landscape matches you, and you just come alive in the pictures with a happiness that speaks from the soul and is so readily apparent on your faces.
I love your blog, and it’s been fun to see your move! I live in San Diego, so I will probably never run into you at Pannikin now, but you are living a dream my husband, kids, and I think of often. For us it is Mendocino. Who knows, maybe someday we’ll get brave and do like you did!
Blessings! Enjoy your gorgeous new home!
May 28, 2011
P.S. Please, please tell me how you did those lights over your bed! I want to put something just like that in my daughters’ rooms!

Welcome, welcome, WELCOME! I’m so happy to share this corner of the country with you. I hadn’t picked up which city you’d moved to right away but reading this post made me think, “I bet they’re in Bellingham!” Yup. Seems just right.
This is a beautiful, joyful place and I’m so happy you and your sweet family are finding the peace you need here. <3
May 29, 2011
i feel like i am living vicariously through these pictures.
i know i live here too, but right now i’m in a place where i am feeling timid and quiet and the outside is too big for me.
i wish i could make sense of what i’m feeling so at least i could type it out coherently.
thank you for the pictures, though.

Denise – your bliss brings joy to my heart. Peace, and grace, to you. MB

Denise,
I check your blog regularly and it helps put me at peace and see beauty in the world. Although, I’ve been traveling (without electronics) and I’ve missed at least your last five posts. I was sure that coming home from my vacation from society and internet would bring me down after so many outdoor adventures.. but I was wrong. Seeing your blog made my day! I absolutely love your new home, think you and your husband are raising the most beautiful child, and you are a saint for sharing your life with others. Thank you!
June 11, 2011
PEACE, that’s what i see.

I love love your blog–it just makes me feel like I can be the centered and calm and art-full person I want to be. I had to comment on this one because I am a Pacific Northwest woman now living in Virginia and missing the Northwest every day! Thank you for sharing your life adventures with us.
(I am going home for a visit soon and will be spending days kayaking and camping along the Clark Fork River–Bliss).
